CLARION, Pa. – With the postseason still within sight, the Clarion University men's basketball team hosts Gannon in a key PSAC West contest at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Despite a 90-70 setback at California (Pa.) Saturday, Clarion (8-12 overall, 6-11 PSAC West), which is looking for its third straight home win, finds itself very much alive in the PSAC playoff race trailing California and Pitt-Johnstown by two games each in the loss column for the fifth and sixth playoff spots awarded to the PSAC West with six teams from the West making the postseason. The Golden Eagles, who also trail Edinboro by a game in the loss column, can get back within a game of a postseason berth with a win Wednesday because California travels to Pitt-Johnstown. Meanwhile, Edinboro hosts Slippery Rock.
Gannon (15-8, 14-4) has already secured a PSAC playoff berth and still has eyes on the PSAC West titles. The Golden Knights, who lost to first-place IUP 64-54 Saturday, trail the Crimson Hawks by just a ½ game going into action Wednesday. IUP is at Mercyhurst.
This is the second meeting of the year between Clarion and Gannon. Gannon took the first game, 68-54, Dec. 3 in Erie behind21 points from Girban Smith and 15 from Adam Blazek. Clarion got 19 points from
Darius Stevens and 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals from
Kyheim Hall.
BJ Andrews leads the Golden Eagles averaging 12.5 points per game, and Andrews is averaging 16.7 points per contest over that span. He ranks 14
th in the PSAC West in scoring and has had back-to-back 20-point games for the first time in his career after a 20-point contest Saturday and a career-best 29-point effort last Wednesday in a win over Seton Hill.
Stevens is adding 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Hall chips in 11.6 points and a team-best 6.1 rebounds per contest.
Freshman point guard
Cameron Grumley adds 8.1 points, 2.7 rebounds. 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game and ranks 15
th in the PSAC steals. He was named the PSAC West Freshman of the Week Monday after averaging 9.5 points, 3.0 steals, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in a pair of contests last week. He recorded a career-best five assists last Wednesday against Seton Hill and a career-high five steals Saturday at Cal.
Smith and Blazek lead Gannon.
Smith averages a team-high 14.8 points per game to go with 4.8 rebounds, while Blazek adds 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
After Wednesday, Clarion is back in action at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mercyhurst.
