CLARION, Pa. – Behind a career-high 32 points from
Darius Stevens and a career-best seven helpers from
Ralph Naples, the Clarion University men's basketball team nearly doubled up visiting Penn St.-DuBois, 110-57, in non-conference men's basketball action Monday night at Tippin Gym.
Stevens, who topped his previous career high of 23 set last year against Slippery Rock, was 14 of 21 from the floor and also had nine rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists.
Naples, meanwhile, playing 21 minutes, had the seven helpers, six points, four rebounds and two steals. His previous high in assists was three at Edinboro Jan. 17.
Three additional Golden Eagles reached double digits with
BJ Andrews scoring 16 points to go with five steals, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Matt D'Amico added a career-best 13 points to go with four rebounds, three steals and an assist, and
Cameron Grumley had 11 points, three rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Brandon Williams added nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Golden Eagles (9-14), who saw all nine players who dressed score.
Kyle Mills led DuBois with 15 points on 5 of 13 from 3-point range. Sam Roselli added 12 points and six rebounds, and Dante Carillo had 10 points and five boards. Clarion High School graduate Ellis Painter chipped in with six points and an assist and hit a pair of 3-pointers.
Penn St. actually led by one, 19-18 with just over 10 minutes left in the first half, and the game was tied at 24 with 8:07 left in the half before a half-ending 27-5 run gave Clarion a 46-29 halftime lead.
The Nittany Lions then closed back to within 14, 49-35, early in the second half before Clarion used a 33-7 run to blow the game wide open taking an 82-42 lead with 9:14 left to play.
The Golden Eagles return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when they host Edinboro in a PSAC West game.
