CLARION, Pa. –
Kyheim Hall and
Darius Stevens combined for 35 points but it wasn't enough for the Clarion University men's basketball team which couldn't overcome a shot night by Edinboro in an 81-69 loss to the visiting Fighting Scots Wednesday.
Hall netted a game-high 20 points while adding eight rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist. It was the second straight conference game the junior forward has had at least 20 points and the seventh time this year he has scored at least 20. Hall shot 7 of 12 from the floor including hitting a 3-pointer, just the fourth triple he has made this year.
Stevens, meanwhile, coming off a career-best 32 points Monday in a win over Penn St.-DuBois, added 15 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block. His tallies included a second-half dunk, two of his nine second-half points.
BJ Andrews chipped in with 11 points going 7 of 8 from the free-throw line, while
Justin Grant had nine and
Matt D'Amico six.
But Edinboro shot 54.7 percent (29 of 53) for the game including 55.6 percent (15 of 27). That allowed the Fighting Scots (13-12, 10-11) to outscore Clarion 45-34 in the half after taking a 36-35 halftime lead.
Six Edinboro players reached double figures led by 17 points from Henri Wade-Chatman, who also had four helpers and four steals.
Casey Baker had 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Will Marrow and Jaymon Mason each had 13 points. Marrow added five assists and five rebounds. Tommy Scales had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Sam Sealy-James had 10 points and six rebounds.
The game was tied at 36 early in the second half, and Clarion was still down by just one, 47-46, following a Stevens 3-pointer with 13:17. But Edinboro used 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 57-46 lead. Clarion made one more run closing within five 6358, with 6:06 left on a D'Amico jumper. But again Edinboro answered with an 11-5 spurt to put the advantage back to double digits.
Clarion closes out its home slate with a 3 p.m. game Sunday with Slippery Rock. It's Senior Day.
