ANDERSON'S HOMERUN HELPS CLARION SOFTBALL SPLIT WITH PITT-JOHNSTOWN

CLARION, Pa.- Megan Anderson helped the Clarion University softball team spilt their series with Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon with a two run homerun in game one. Clarion won the first game 9-4 while dropping game two 7-2. The Golden Eagles improved their record to 3-15 with the results. UPJ improved their record also with the split to 4-16.

The Golden Eagles took a 4-3 lead in game one after Anderson's two run homerun in the second inning. Clarion had trailed 3-1 going into the inning before Ashley Hummel doubled home Ashley Barenchik.

Clarion added more runs to the scoreboard with the help of Anderson in the fourth inning. Following an Audrey Hummel run on a wild pitch, Anderson knocked in another run on an RBI double giving Clarion a 6-3 lead.

Clarion's lead only grew until the seventh. In the fifth inning Autumn Babcock singled in two runs to right field. Barenchik and pinch runner Cassie Daniels both scored increasing the Golden Eagle lead to 8-3. Christina Tressler doubled home Anderson in the sixth for Clarion's final run of game one. Casey Wilcox was awarded with the first Golden Eagle RBI on a double in the first inning in which Kayla Henderson scored.

UPJ fought back adding a run in their final at bats, however the lead was too much for Pitt-Johnstown to overcome.

Anderson went 3-for-4 in the first ball game with two runs and three RBIs, including two on the homerun. Babcock went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a walk. As a team the Golden Eagles hit for five doubles and finished with twelve hits including the Anderson homerun.

Paige Baker finished with the win and a complete game with ten strikeouts. She gave up four runs, all unearned.

Melissa Wagner took the loss, pitching five innings for UPJ giving up eight earned runs to the Golden Eagles. Emily Moore finished the game for UPJ.

The Golden Eagles dropped game two Saturday afternoon to the Mountain Cats 7-2. The game was knotted up at 2 apiece before a costly sixth inning for the Golden Eagles.

Clarion gave up four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to the Mountain Cats.

Shawnna Crago pitched six innings striking out eight in the loss. Chelsea Zola pitched the final frame for Clarion.

The Golden Eagles take the field again Sunday afternoon when they travel to California (Pa.) to take on the Vulcans. The team returns home for a doubleheader Monday afternoon against the Mercyhurst Lakers.
