CLARION SPIKERS LOSE 3-1 TO HILLSDALE AT BANNER INVITE (Clarion, Pa.): Clarion's
Taylor Braunagel posted 12 kills, Kaley Pittsely had 26 assists and 13 digs and
Morgan Seybold 18 digs but it wasn't enough as Hillsdale defeated Clarion 3-1 in the Fourth Annual Tony Banner Invitational Tournament at Waldo S. Tippin Gym on Friday night.
Clarion lost the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores, rallied to win the third set 25-20 and lost the fourth by a 25-11 margin.
Clarion is now 0-2 on the season, having lost its opener 3-0 to Ashland in the afternoon. Hillsdale is 2-0 after defeating Gannon earlier today.
In the first set Clarion led 15-14 before Hillsdale ran off 7 straight points for a 21-15 lead and the set. The second set Clarion led 20-19, and saw the set tied at 21 each, before Hillsdale scored the final four points to win 25-21
Clarion led throughout the third set and got the set point on a
Catherine Ferragonio kill with an assist by Pittsely. But the Golden Eagles ran out of gas in the fourth set and Hillsdale took the match.
Taylor Braunagel led the attack with 12 kills,
Gabrielle Olson had 8 and
Lauryn Driscoll 6.Pittsley had 26 assists to go with 13 digs,
Morgan Seybold had 18 digs and
Catherine Ferragonio posted 10 digs.
Clarion returns to action on Saturday when the Eagles host North Alabama at 11am at Tippin Gym.
