CLARION SPIKERS LOSE BANNER FINALE TO UINDY 3-0 (Clarion, Pa.): Clarion freshman
Marissa Robertson had a second straight strong performance with 11 kills and 6 digs, while
Kaley Pittsley had 34 assists, but Indianapolis rallied to defeat the Golden Eagles 3-0 on Saturday evening to close out the Fourth Annual Tony Banner Invitational Tournament at Waldo S. Tippin Gym.
Clarion led late in all three sets but lost by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-23. Clarion's record is 0-4 to start the 2015 campaign.
The Golden Eagles led the first set 23-21, but UIndy rallied for four straight points to win the opener. In the second Clarion jumped out to leads of 19-14 and 21-17, but couldn't hold off the visitors and lost 25-23. The third set was a repeat of the first two, leading 19-16 late but UIndy outscored the Eagles 9-4 down the stretch to get the win.
Freshman
Marissa Robertson, in her first match as a starter, posted 11 kills and 6 digs, while
Gabrielle Olson had 7 kills and 3 blocks.
Abbey Cox posted 5 kills,
Morgan Seybold 15 digs and
Morgan Herold 10 digs to lead the way.
Clarion's
Abbey Cox was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Clarion travels to Cal for the Vulcan Invite on Friday and Saturday.
