Golden Eagles Score Twice Early But Fall to the Rock

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion women's soccer team scored two goals in rapid succession to open but were unable to hold back a hard-charging Slippery Rock team, as The Rock came back to take a 3-2 win over the Golden Eagles at Memorial Stadium.  Clarion (2-11-2, 2-10-1 PSAC) will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Shippensburg.

Marina Kelly scored her fifth goal of the year and Aaliyah Odom her first within a span of 32 seconds, putting Clarion ahead 2-0 less than three minutes in.  On the first Odom carried the ball deep into the righthand corner and fired a crossing pass to Kelly in the box, but the ball ricocheted off a defender and in for the first goal of the night.

The second goal came on a near identical play, though this time the pass to Kelly connected. Kelly launched a shot from close range just past the goalkeeper to shock the Rock and make it 2-0 in the third minute. Meliah Roman added assists on both goals, while Erin Rodgers contributed one.

Slippery Rock finally got on the board in the 30th minute, scoring on a free kick by Dara Demich from roughly 25 yards out.  Tess Keeley scored twice from inside the box in the second half, tying the game in the 54th minute and adding another tally in the 61st minute to put The Rock ahead.

Clarion had opportunities in the second half to bounce back, with Odom having two shots at close range blocked by Slippery Rock defenders in the 76th minute and Erin Rodgers just missing a shot wide off a corner kick by Stephanie Lias.
