ERIE, Pa. – The Clarion baseball team played its second road doubleheader against Mercyhurst in as many days on Saturday, with the Golden Eagles falling by scores of 15-4 and 10-0 to the Lakers at Mercyhurst Field. The Golden Eagles were the designated home team in both games. With the losses, Clarion falls to 4-19 overall on the season and 1-7 in PSAC West play.
Â
Tyler Falk was the big stick in the lineup for the Golden Eagles on Saturday, belting a three-run home run in Game 1 for his first dinger of the season. The junior first baseman jumped on a pitch from Andrew Ciolli in the sixth inning and sent it over the fence to bring home
Josh Ponsoll and
Tyler Delval.
Â
Mercyhurst jumped out to 2-0 leads in each of the first two games en route to their double-digit wins, with Clarion falling by three or more runs after the second inning of each game.Â
Kyle Armagost suffered the loss in Game 1, giving up 10 runs in 5.0 innings.Â
Kane McCall took the loss in Game 2, giving up seven runs in 4.2 innings, though just five were earned.
Â
The Lakers built a 12-0 lead in the first game before the Golden Eagles struck back with Falk's three-run blast cut into their lead. Clarion wasn't done in the sixth, however, as
Mike Lockhart followed up the home run by drawing a walk with no outs.Â
Austin Mike moved him over to second on a ground out and
Brian Laurito drove him in with a single to make it 12-4.Â
Â
Mercyhurst added four more runs in the top of the seventh, though, and ultimately shut the Golden Eagles down in the bottom of the inning to clinch the win. The second game was much more lopsided in favor of the Lakers, as they allowed just three baserunners and took a 5-0 lead after two innings. Ponsoll spoiled the no-hit bid for the Lakers in the bottom of the seventh inning when he led off with a single, but the Golden Eagles never got a run across as they were shut out in Game 2.
