DUBOIS, Pa. – The Clarion baseball team earned a win under the lights on Wednesday night, with the Golden Eagles defeating Penn State-DuBois by a 13-2 score in a nine-inning game on the road. With the win Clarion improves to 6-26 overall on the season.
Josh Ponsoll had a monster day at the plate, going 3-of-5 with a home run, five RBI's and two runs scored, while Mitchell Holmberg went 2-of-3 with three RBI's and two runs. Freshman
Mason McGuire also had a three-hit night, scoring three runs and driving in another in the process.
All told, eight of the nine Golden Eagles in the offensive line-up recorded a hit, and five of them added multiple hits.
Tyler Delval was one of three players with multiple RBI's, going 1-of-5 with a triple, two RBI's and a run scored. Ponsoll and
Mike Lockhart also notched doubles on the evening.
Jay Moog got the start on the mound and earned his first collegiate victory, throwing six shutout innings against the Nittany Lions. He struck out five batters and walked just one.
Jake Arienzo finished the game with three innings, allowing two runs in the bottom of the ninth but otherwise proceeding smoothly.
Clarion will take on the Gannon Knights in four games this weekend, starting with a road doubleheader on Friday. They will return home to host the Knights on Saturday, with the doubleheader set to start at 1 p.m.
