CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion soccer team was engaged in a dogfight in PSAC competition on Friday night, falling 3-2 to Lock Haven in a dramatic double-overtime finish. The Golden Eagles (2-7-2, 2-6-1 PSAC) will be back in action tomorrow evening when they host Mansfield at Memorial Stadium.
Â
There were chances aplenty for both teams on Friday, with Clarion having several opportunities to tack on and take advantage over Lock Haven. The Golden Eagles in particular were robbed on several great chances, including a backwards diving save by Bree Hilty on
Marina Kelly in the 73rd minute and a later sequence where
Meliah Roman,
Anna Chamberlin and
Erin Rodgers all had good looks on the net.
Â
ÂKelly did net her fourth goal of the season in the first half, scoring in the 28th minute to put Clarion ahead – an advantage that held through the halftime break.Â
Aaliyah Odom raced down the field and fought off a defender, crossing a pass through the box to Kelly. Kelly fought off a defender and chipped it in behind a charging Hilty to give Clarion the 1-0 lead.
Â
Lock Haven scored on two consecutive opportunities early in the second half to briefly take the advantage. Jordan Shoff scored on a header off a corner kick to tie the game, and Gabby Kishbaugh scored from roughly 25' out to make it 2-1 in the 68th minute.
Â
Clarion countered late in the half, though, thanks to a well-executed corner kick.Â
Anna Sheen fired a beauty to the far post, where
Taylor Starr was waiting to head in the equalizer in the 80th minute.
Â
Neither team scored in the first extra session, but Lock Haven found the back of the net in the 102nd minute to take the win. Janelle Swartz headed in Shoff's corner kick to make it 3-2 and seal the win for the Bald Eagles.
