ERIE, Pa. – The Clarion women's swimming team claimed an impressive victory in their first dual meet of the season, defeating Gannon 164-132 on Friday night. The next time the full team will be in action is Friday, Nov. 3 when the Golden Eagles take on Shippensburg.

The Golden Eagles won 10 events on the night en route to the victory, including eight in the pool and both diving events. The night started with the 400 Medley Relay, with the team of
Summer Dacheux,
Mary Clare Smith,
Danielle Jellison and
Alexis Lopez cruising to a first place finish with a time of 4:02.41. Clarion took second in the only other relay of the night, a 1:41.11 performance in the 200 Free Relay.

Becca Yonek won the first women's individual event of the night, winning the 1000 Free with a PSAC-qualifying time of 11:02.46. She also won the 500 Free with a time of 5:24.43. Dacheux won both of her individual events on the night, starting with a pool record time of 58.89 in the 100 Back. She also hit the mark in the 200 Back, finishing the event with a time of 2:10.29 to pace the field.

Freshman
Mary Clare Smith continued to impress early in her collegiate career, and tonight won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:07.87. She also won the 200 Breaststroke by more than seven full seconds, posting a time of 2:26.66, and the 200 IM with a 2:16.43.

In the diving events,
Christina Sather comfortably won both the 1m and 3m Dives. She posted a 273.90 in the former and a 279.15 in the latter.
