ELKINS, Wv – Clarion freshman
Mason Mraz set a new career-high with 29 points, but the Golden Eagles were unable to hold a late lead, falling on the road to Davis & Elkins College on Tuesday, 95-86.
Clarion (2-4) was leading 85-84 with just 2:48 remaining in the game, but went cold from the field, missing their final 11 shots, while the Senators enjoyed an 11-1 run en route to a 9-point victory.
The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 69% from the floor in the first half, building a lead as large as 5 points, but the Senators forced 11 turnovers and took a 52-45 lead into halftime.
Mraz kept the Golden Eagles within striking distance, pouring in 18 of his 29 points in the second half.
Kyheim Hall scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half as well in his return to action.
However, Clarion had no answer for D&E's Edmund Parker, who dropped a game-high 43 points on 13 of 20 shooting, netting 7 attempts from beyond the arc.
Davis & Elkins also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Clarion 42-29 on the afternoon.
Mraz led Clarion with 29 points on 9 of 15 shooting, knocking down 6, three-point baskets. Hall added 16 points along with 5 rebounds while
Cameron Grumley and
RJ Laugand each chipped in 11 points on the day.
Clarion will travel to Lincoln University next Tuesday, November 28
th, for a 7:30pm tip.
