Game Recap: Basketball (Women's) |

Women's Hoops Falls 52-42 at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball team very nearly recovered from a slow start, but the Golden Eagles were not able to break through in the second half in losing 52-42 at Bloomsburg on Saturday. Clarion (5-5, 1-4 PSAC) will travel to Robert Morris for an exhibition game this Saturday, December 16.

Jordan Bekelja led Clarion in scoring with nine points and also added seven rebounds, tying her with Tracy Wiehe in that regard.  Yasmin Lewis had a game-high nine boards to go with four points and two steals.  Amesha Harden-Pullium had five assists.

Bloomsburg opened the first quarter by holding the Golden Eagle offense in check, with Clarion going more than seven minutes without a field goal.  Taylor Moltz got on the board with a three-pointer to cut the Husky lead to 13-5 and the team found its rhythm, with the Golden Eagles going on a 6-0 run midway through the second quarter to pull within one basket.  Yndiah Bobo knocked down a midrange jumper at the 7:49 mark to make it 17-11, and Tynita White shook off a defender with a slick move in the paint to make it a four-point game.  Marina Kelly capped the run at the 4:14 mark of the period, taking a feed from Yasmin Lewis and making a midrange jumper to cut it to two points.

The lead never got any greater than two possessions in the remainder of the second quarter, with Bobo keeping it close with a jumper at the 0:42 mark and Lewis adding two free throws with 27 seconds remaining to make it 22-19.  Lewis then made the first bucket of the third quarter, taking a feed from Bobo and laying it in to slice Bloomsburg's lead to 23-21.  Clarion got no closer the rest of the game though, as the Huskies pushed the lead into double-digits late in the third quarter.

The advantage hovered around 10 points the rest of the way, with Moltz scoring on an and-one with 7:05 left in regulation to pull her team within seven points.  The Huskies held off the Golden Eagles in the waning minutes to secure the win.
