CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion softball team fell in a pair of PSAC Central contests on Friday, dropping decision of 10-0 and 7-0 to the Lock Haven Bald Eagles at Memorial Stadium. The Golden Eagles (5-31, 1-9 PSAC) will play a road doubleheader at Bloomsburg on Saturday.
Â
Brigid Stermel stroked a pair of hits on the afternoon, while
Laura Sadowski went 1-for-2 with a long double late in the second game.Â
Taylor Nonnenberg and
Cassidy Runyan also contributed hits.Â
Sarah Gossard (0-4) suffered the loss in the first game, allowing six runs in five innings, while
Rachel Hoffman (4-9) took the defeat in the late game.
Â
Lock Haven scored five runs in the top of the first in the early game, and a Clarion chance to score was quashed in the home half of the inning. Runyan led off the inning with a base hit to right field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Kimberly Burdett. Bekah Slattery fanned the next two Golden Eagles at the plate, though, to end the rally. Nonnenberg reached on a one-out single and advanced to second on another sacrifice bunt, but Stermel's long fly ball to center field was tracked down for the third out. The Bald Eagles tacked on one run in the fourth and four more in the seventh to take the 10-0 victory.
Â
Sadowski recorded the Golden Eagles' first base hit of the second game in the bottom of the third inning, launching a double to left center with one out. Lock Haven erased her from the basepaths thanks to an unlucky bounce on Runyan's grounder to shortstop, and Burdett grounded out to third to end the inning.Â
Â
The Bald Eagles took a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning and was up 7-0 entering the bottom of the seventh. Nonnenberg led off the inning with a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout with two outs. Daniels couldn't plate her, though, tapping one to third base to end the threat.
