INDIANA, Pa: The Clarion University women's volleyball team picked up a pair of neutral site victories on Friday, sweeping Roberts Wesleyan in the early match 3-0, followed by a 3-1 victory over Daemen in the nightcap.
With the sweep, Clarion moves to 2- 1 on the young season.
In the early matchup with Roberts Wesleyan, it was Clarion winning a close first set, 25-20. The Golden Eagles then cruised in sets two and three, winning 25-13 and 25-16, respectively.
Taylor Braunagel (Milford, Pa., Delaware Valley) led all players in kills with 10, followed by
Lauryn Driscoll (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) with 9 kills and
Julia Holden (Brunswick, Ohio, Brunswick) with 8. Driscoll hammered home 4 aces while teammate
Leah Vensel (Erie, Pa., McDowell) set the offense with 28 assists. Senior
Catherine Ferragonio's (Irwin, Pa., Norwin) 19 digs were also a game high.
In the nightcap, Clarion dropped the first set 21-25, but rebounded to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-23 and 25-12, for the win.
Driscoll & Holden paced the Golden Eagle attack, each posting double-digit kills.
Olivia Olson (Gibsonia, Pa., Pine-Richland) had a game-high 6 blocks, while Vensel added 34 assists in the victory.
Coach Herron's squad returns to the court tomorrow for a 12:30pm matchup against Ursuline College on the campus of IUP. Live stats will be provided via IUP for tomorrow's contest.
