Odom's Two Tallies Bury Ursuline

CLARION, Pa. – Senior Aaliyah Odom scored two goals in under 14 minutes in the first half, propelling the Clarion women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Ursuline on Sunday.  The Golden Eagles (2-2-1, 1-2-1 PSAC) will be back in action this week when they play at Slippery Rock on Sept. 13.

The Golden Eagles wasted no time in putting the pressure on the Arrows, scoring just 25 seconds into regulation.  After Clarion dumped the ball deep into the Ursuline zone off the opening kick, Odom took possession inside the box and launched a rocker past keeper Gina Cerny for her second tally of the year.

Odom struck again in the 14th minute to give the Golden Eagles a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half.  Marina Kelly lobbed a long pass from her own end deep into Ursuline territory, and Odom fought off a pair of defenders to get ahead of the pack with the ball.  She roofed a shot on the righthand side past Cerny to make it a two-goal advantage.

The Arrows cut the lead in half late in the first half, though, with Haley Knox drawing contact in the box to earn a penalty kick.  Knox beat Brigid Stermel to the lower right corner to make it 2-1 in the 31st minute.  Ursuline came dangerously close to scoring the equalizer late in regulation, but newly-inserted keeper Brynn Markley stopped point-blank shots from Steph Chlad in the final 10 minutes to preserve the lead and the win.
