McNally's game winner lifts Clarion in overtime

CLARION, Pa –Clarion's Dani McNally (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Hills) scored the game winner with 48 seconds left in the second overtime, and the Clarion Golden Eagles prevailed to a 2-1 victory over Shippensburg, Saturday evening in front of the home crowd.

Senior Aaliyah Odom (Pittsburgh, Pa., Plum) sent a pass through the box right to McNally who put a shot to the lower left post beating Shippensburg keeper Delaney Shifflet.

It was a fitting end after Shippensburg used last second heroics of their own to force overtime. It appeared to be a Clarion 1-0 victory in regulation, however a shot by Shippensburg's Bailey Bzdak made its way through heavy traffic and into the back of the net with only 1 second remaining, sending the game to overtime.

Clarion took a 1-0 lead early in the second half, when McNally played a ball in from the right corner that found the foot of teammate Julianna Iocco (Wilmington, Mass., Wilmington). The senior turned and buried a shot to the far left post, putting Clarion ahead 1-0 in the 54th minute.

Another stingy defensive performance anchored by seniors Marina Kelly (Whitman, Mass., Whitman-Hanson) and Jess Kenny (Westfield, N.J., Westfield) along with stellar goaltending by Krista Mosi (South Park, Pa., South Park), helped Clarion earn an all-important PSAC victory. Mosi fiished the night with 9 saves.

With the victory Clarion moves to 3-3-1 (2-3-1 PSAC) on the season while Shippensburg drops to 1-3-1 (1-2 PSAC).  Already with three victories on the season, Coach Esterhuizen's squad has surpassed their win total from a year ago and has proved to be a consistently tough matchup for every PSAC team.

Catch the Golden Eagles in action at home again this coming Tuesday (Sep 19th) when they host Daemen College for a 2pm non-conference contest.
