Daemen Edges Out Women's Soccer in 2OT

CLARION, Pa. – Clarion and Daemen went back and forth in a defensive battle through nearly 104 minutes of shutout ball, but the Wildcats prevailed over the Golden Eagles 1-0 thanks to a goal scored in double overtime.  Clarion (3-4-1, 2-3-1 PSAC) will take on IUP on Friday before returning home to host Mansfield on Sunday.

The Wildcats' Jamie Boyar scored the clincher in the 104th minute, taking a cross from Alex Juliano and sneaking it past Krista Mosi to put the Wildcats on top.  To that point Clarion had the better of the opportunities and more of them, outshooting Daemen 17-9 overall and 6-5 in shots on net.

The other big opportunity for the Golden Eagles came in set plays, as they held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.  One of those came as time wound down in the first overtime period, when Stephanie Lias arched a ball in front of the net that was cleared away by Daemen.  This came on the heels of Anna Chamberlin's plum scoring opportunity, when she fired a shot on net that forced Maddie Flores to make a save.  McKenzie Sheesley and Meliah Roman also had cracks on the net late in the first extra frame, but neither could quite get it on net.

Sheesley once again drove offense for Clarion, putting four shots on net to lead both teams.  That included back-to-back attempts midway through the second half with the two teams still scoreless.  Dani McNally nearly scored the clincher in the 81st minute when she headed a corner cross from Lias just wide of the righthand post.
