CLARION, Pa. – Senior
Cameron Grumley netted his 1,000
th point in a Clarion uniform but the Golden Eagles fell at home to Gannon Saturday afternoon, 87-65.
Both teams came out with intensity as the first half was a back and forth affair with Clarion holding a lead as big as seven points. Gannon's Frank Webb Jr. took the inbound pass and went coast to coast at the buzzer to give the Golden Knights a slim 35-33 advantage at the half.
Unfortunately, Gannon flexed its muscle early in the 2
nd half, opening up on a 14-4 run to stretch their lead to double-digits and put the game out of reach.
Gannon improves 11-5 and 7-3 in the PSAC while Clarion moves to 3-14 and 0-11 in league play.
Grumley finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds on his historic afternoon, becoming the 30
th player in school history to score 1,000 points. His 1
st half breakaway slam dunk brought the fans to their feet in Tippin Gymnasium.
Freshman
Maqi Watson played 37 minutes and netted 14 points along with 3 blocks and 3 rebounds. Fellow freshman
Mason Mraz chipped in 12 points including 3 of 5 from three point range.
Clarion shot 47% from the floor on the day but had a tough time slowing down the Golden Knights attack in the 2
nd half, as they shot over 55%.
Gannon also held a significant 47-25 edge in rebounds on the day.
Clarion will play their next two on the road, starting with a trip to Edinboro University this Wednesday (Jan 17). Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
