CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion wrestling team returned home for its first dual on campus of the year, falling by a score of 30-6 to EWL foe Edinboro on Friday. The Golden Eagles (6-4, 1-1 EWL) will try to rebound on Sunday when they host Cleveland State at Marwick-Boyd Auditorium.Â
Â
Edinboro's Sean Russell opened the match with a technical fall over
Gavin Park, snapping Park's seven-match win streak with a 24-9 score in the 125-pound match. The lead increased to 9-0 after Korbin Myers claimed a major decision at 133 pounds, and
Evan Myers battled hard against Nate Hagan before ultimately falling by a 5-1 decision.
Â
Taylor Ortz stopped the bleeding with a solid effort at 149 pounds, opening strong against Jensen Lorea and keeping him on his heels the rest of the way. He scored a quick takedown and tilted Lorea for two more points in the first period, and reversed him from the down position to start the second period and give himself a 6-0 advantage. Lorea managed an escape in the third period, but Ortz controlled the action the rest of the way to take the 7-1 decision.
Â
Next up was
Avery Shay, who fought off an early challenge from Andrew Shomers with a pick for a two-point takedown. Shomers escaped, and then rode Shay through the second period to tie the bout at 2-2 as Shomer held a riding time advantage. Neither wrestler could bring the other down in the third period, sending the bout to overtime. Shomers reversed Shay in the first tiebreaker period and then held off a takedown attempt in the second to take the win. Fritz Hoehn followed with a technical fall at 165 pounds to make it 20-3 for Edinboro, and Dom Rigous scored a late takedown at 174 but could not get the tilt on Ty Schoffstall in falling 6-4.
Â
Greg Bulsak put Clarion back on the scoreboard with a complete effort against Zach Anciewicz at 184 pounds. The talented redshirt freshman got a toss and a takedown in the first period to build the only lead he needed, and then hammered Anciewicz in the second period to open up a 4-0 advantage. Bulsak opened the third period on top and never allowed Anciewicz up for air, riding him out for the duration of the final period to take a 5-0 decision.Â
Â
Edinboro completed the win with victories at 197 and 285 pounds, taking a major decision in the former and an 8-2 decision in the latter.
