Tennis Falls in 4-3 Decision to Kutztown

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion women's tennis team suffered a narrow loss in their dual match opener on Friday, splitting singles play but falling 4-3 to Kutztown at Campbell Courts.  The Golden Eagles (0-1) will try to even their season record tomorrow when they host East Stroudsburg.

The teams were tightly matched in singles play, with each side winning three of the six singles matches on the court.  The difference came down to the doubles point, with the Golden Bears winning the Nos. 1 and 3 matches to clinch the extra point.

Doubles play was fairly even as well, with the only blowout a 6-0 victory for Michelle Petrilla and Katie Benson in the No. 2 doubles match.  Both of the other doubles matches were decided by tight 6-4 margins, giving the Golden Bears the edge.

Alivia Arnold took a straight sets win in the No. 1 singles match, beating Yasmeen Malik 6-3, 6-2 for her first victory of the season.  Hailey Germanoski also won in straight sets, taking the No. 5 singles match over Jillian Siefert 6-3, 6-4, and Sarah Kirmeyer took the No. 6 singles match in three sets after her opponent was forced to retire late in the match.  Kutztown won the remaining three singles matches on the court for the singles split, giving them the win.
