BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Clarion wrestling team completed its final competition before they embark on a holiday break, falling 26-6 to Buffalo at Alumni Arena on Saturday night.  The Golden Eagles (2-4) will next be in action on January 9 when they host LIU Post at Marwick-Boyd Auditorium.

Once again rolling with an injury-depleted lineup, the Golden Eagles pulled out a couple of wins in the upper weights, with Taylor Cahill and Shae Bloom winning decisions.  There were other close decisions dotting the landscape as Clarion battled in their difficult test against the Bulls.

Cahill was the first to get a win on Saturday, defeating Jake Lanning in the 174-pound match.  It was a 2-2 match heading into the third period, with Cahill taking Lanning down twice in the final two minutes of action to earn the win by decision.  Bloom followed that up with a fast start in the 184-pound bout, taking Logan Rill down and tilting him for a four-point near-fall to make it a 6-0 lead.  He added on to the advantage in the third period, holding Rill off for the 9-4 decision.

Elsewhere, Avery Shay came up just short in the 157-pound match, giving up a late takedown to Alex Smythe in a 3-2 loss, while Toby Cahill fell in a similar fashion in the 285-pound bout.  Buffalo built a 20-0 advantage in the team match before Clarion picked up their two wins and held on for the win.
