Grumley Goes Off for 26 but Golden Eagles Fall to IUP

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion men's basketball team played their penultimate game at home on Wednesday evening, falling 102-66 to IUP at Tippin Gymnasium.  The Golden Eagles (3-22, 0-19 PSAC) will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, February 17 against Edinboro.
 
Cameron Grumley led the Golden Eagles with 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting, with many of his makes coming with significant defensive pressure.  Brandon Williams added 11 points while Mason Mraz scored 10 points.  IUP finished 56.5 percent from the field and 20-of-38 from three-point range.
 
IUP got off to a 12-0 run to start, but Mason Mraz and Khari Williams added back-to-back three-pointers to get Clarion on the board less than five minutes into the first half.  Grumley added another at the 15:00 mark to pull the Golden Eagles to within 21-11, and Maqi Watson threw down a two-handed dunk with 14:04 remaining.  The Crimson Hawks were white-hot from long range, though, making six three-pointers in a row at one point and eight of their first 10. 
 
The Golden Eagles got in on the long-range act, as well.  Grumley made a pair of contested treys from the right wing early in the half, and Israel Atkins added one from beyond the head of the key to make it 36-21.  Clarion continued to pound away, cutting the Crimson Hawks' lead to 38-28 after a fast break layup by Williams.  Grumley poured in 15 points in the first half, and Brandon Williams tipped in the final shot before the break to set the halftime score at 55-38. 
 
The Crimson Hawks opened the second half on a 13-4 run, going up 67-46 going into the first media timeout of the second half.  The teams traded baskets for the next several minutes, but IUP eventually increased their advantage to more than 30 points.    They hit the century mark with 4:34 remaining in regulation and took the 102-66 win.
