Softball drops final two at Snowbird Invite

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Clarion women's softball team closed out action at the Snowbird Invitational on Sunday, falling to Le Moyne 8-2 in the early game before a narrow 5-3 loss to #17 ranked Molloy.

Game 1
Clarion jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a solo home run by Cassidy Runyan, along with a unearned run off a Le Moyne miscue.

The Dolphins struck for seven runs in the 4th inning to take a commanding 7-2 lead and put the game out of reach.

Starting pitcher Laura Sadowski threw 3.1 innings in the loss, surrendering 7 hits and 6 earned runs. Macy Rubin added three solid innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen.

Runyan was 1 for 2 with her aforementioned 3rd home run of the season, while Taylor Nonnenburg was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate.

Game 2
The Golden Eagles once again struck first via the long ball, this time it was Natalie Else who hit her 1st home run of the season to give Clarion a 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately, Molloy rallied for four runs in the 4th inning to take a 4-1 lead. Trailing 5-1 in the 6th, Clarion would mount a rally of their own when Moriah Lynn tripled to left to score Runyan. Else would follow with a ground ball to shortstop that was misplayed, allowing Lynn to come around to make it 5-3.

That would be all the scoring in the game, as Molloy retired all three Clarion batters in the 7th to earn the win.

Lynn finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Else added a hit, a run scored, and 2 RBI. Aryn Boyer also went 1 for 3 on the afternoon.

Starting pitcher Sarah Gossard threw all six innings, allowing six hits and five earned runs.
