FLORENCE, S.C. – Weather changes forced the Clarion baseball team to play late into the night for a second consecutive day, ending their southern trip with an impressive 15-8 victory over Fairmont State.

Earlier in the day, the Golden Eagles blew a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning against Ohio Dominican, surrendering nine runs to fall 14-4.Â
Clarion returns home with a 5-8 overall record, going 2-2 on their trip to Florence, SC. Â
Game 1
Ohio Dominican broke a scoreless tie with a 2-out single in the bottom of the fourth to take an early 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles answered quickly in the top of the fifth when
Nick Fugh lined a two-out RBI single to right field to bring around
Dan Janoson. Clarion tacked on three runs in the sixth inning including a sacrifice fly from Janoson to make it 4-1.

The Panthers responded with a big rally in the sixth inning, scoring nine runs to take a 10-4 advantage. They posted a quartet of insurance runs in the subsequent innings, including a two-run homer in the eighth inning to set the final deficit at 14-4.

Clarion starter
Chance Miranda (0-1) was solid for five innings, limiting a potent Panthers offensive lineup to one run through five innings before Ohio Dominican broke through in the sixth.

Game 2
For the second straight game the Golden Eagles and Fighting Falcons set the scoreboard ablaze, as Clarion completed the weekend sweep over Fairmont State with a 15-8 win that concluded just before midnight on Sunday.

The Falcons struck first in the top of the first inning but the Golden Eagles piled on with a six-run second inning. The outcome was never truly in question for the rest of the night as Clarion continued to build their lead, eventually going up 14-4 in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by
Bryce Jackson.Â

Nick Fugh went 3-of-6 in the leadoff spot with four runs scored and two RBI, while
Chandler Palyas went 3-of-5 with two runs and two RBI. Four different Golden Eagles drove in two or more runs, with Jackson and
Devin Beverly joining the aforementioned pair in turning the trick.

Dillon Wolbert (1-0) was effective on the mound, throwing six innings while allowing four runs and striking out six for his first win of the season.
