CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion softball team dropped a rainy decision to Edinboro on Wednesday, falling 13-4 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader at Memorial Stadium. The second game was cancelled due to rain. The Golden Eagles (4-19) are scheduled to take the field again on Friday, April 13 against Lock Haven.
Jessica Cartia hit her fifth home run of the season and third in as many games, knocking a two-run blast over the right-center field fence to score
Moriah Lynn in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cartia hit a pair of clouts yesterday against Pitt-Johnstown, one in each end of a doubleheader, and now ranks fifth in the PSAC in home runs on the season.
Rebecca Kelley (1-6) took the loss against the Fighting Scots, allowing seven runs in 2.0 innings pitched.
Laura Sadowski entered in relief and allowed six runs in 3.2 innings pitched, though just two were earned runs.
Edinboro scored twice in the first inning and held a 7-0 advantage after three innings of action. Sadowski put Clarion on the board in the bottom of the third inning after second baseman Heather Barrett missed a routine throw to first base that would have been the third out; Sadowski came across home on the play to make it 7-1.
With Clarion trailing 8-1 in the fifth inning,
Cassie Daniels struck when she scored on a delayed steal of home while
Moriah Lynn took second base. Cartia's home run later in the inning scored her to make it 8-4. Edinboro posted five runs in the sixth to take a 13-4 advantage, and Clarion failed to score in the home half of the inning to wrap the contest.
