CLARION, Pa. – Behind junior
Julia Holden's 33 kills, the Clarion Volleyball team swept six consecutive sets to win both matches on Friday at the Tony Banner Memorial Volleyball Tournament.
Clarion made short work of visiting Ursuline College in the morning match winning by set scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-14.
The aforementioned Holden registered 15 kills in the first match, followed by freshman
Aubrey Wrona with nine and
Lauryn Driscoll with eight. Wrona also had a team-high four aces while
Leah Vensel set the attack with 36 assists.
The potent Clarion attack hit .291 for the match with 44 kills, and held the Arrows to .091 average and 23 kills.
In the nightcap against Ohio Dominican, it was Holden again leading the way with 18 kills as the Golden Eagles cruised to a three-set sweep by scores of 25-23, 25-16, 25-19.
Seniors Driscoll and
Olivia Olson added 9 and 8 kills respectively while Wrona registered five of the team's 10 aces in the match. Clarion out-served the Panthers 10 aces to one.
Chrissy Cotton had a game-high 27 digs and Vensel added another 36 assists.
Coach Herron's squad has won three consecutive matches to start the tournament, all in straight sets.
The Golden Eagles will conclude tournament action tomorrow (Sept 1) with a 2pm contest against Cedarville University.
