MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Clarion women's swimming team picked up a win in their first dual meet of the 2019 calendar year, defeating Allegheny 145-96 in Meadville on Friday night. The Golden Eagles will be back in action next week at the Western PA Invite hosted by Pittsburgh.
The Golden Eagles started the night with a win in the 200 Medley Relay, with the quartet of
Ava Arnold,
Mary Clare Smith,
Autumn Fortney and
Letizia Collini posting a time of 1:51.37 to blow away the Gators' top unit. The "B" squad of
Stephanie Setar,
Michelle Morrisey,
Danielle Jellison and
Kaitlynn Henninge took third with a time of 1:56.09.
They followed that with a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 Free, with Smith taking first in a time of 11:09.51. Becca Yonek came in just behind her, posting a time of 11:16.06, and
Sarah Murray took third in the field with a time of 11:34.02. The latter two also placed high in the 500 Free, with Yonek winning in a time of 5:30 and Murray taking second with a time of 5:39.54.
Gabi Wayne won the 200 Free with a time of 2:01.47.
The Gators won several events to pull closer with the Golden Eagles, but
Autumn Fortney and
Abbey Newman went 1-2 in the 100 Fly to tack 13 points onto the team total.
Letizia Collini took first in the 100 Free with a time of 55.02, and
Christina Sather swept the diving events to close out the team win for Clarion.
