Hill's Two Goals Powers Soccer Past Cal U

CLARION, Pa. -  Andie Hill tallied two goals in the game to lift the Golden Eagles soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Cal U Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium. Clarion improves to 2-9-0 on the year and 1-9-0 in the PSAC West, while the Vulcans fall to 3-8-0, 2-8-0.

Hill finished off a give and go pass from Elle Stine and Alexis Moyer and was able to beat Vulcan goalkeeper Gianna Sinatra for the first goal of the match.

Cal U's Lindsie Galbreath evened the game less than a minute later when she raced down the field past the Golden Eagle defense and scored on a rebound that first rang off the left post to even the game at one.

There was plenty of action early in the second half, as the offense for the Golden Eagles came out of the locker room hot, firing multiple shots at the Vulcan keeper within the first 5 minutes of the half.

Hill found the back of the net once again in the 48th minute when she beat Sinatra for a second time finding the top of the left upper 90 from just outside the box to give the Blue and Gold the go ahead goal and ultimately the game.

Stine nearly gave the Golden Eagles added insurance in the 61st minute when she had two opportunities back to back off of a crossing pass from Madison Spitko but was unable to find the back of the net.

The Golden Eagles recorded three shots in the first half, and finished with six on the night while the Vulcans finished with 14 shots, eight of those coming in the second half. Senior Goalkeeper Brigid Stermel played all 90 minutes in net, collecting four saves on the night. Clarion recorded three shots on goal two from Hill and one from Stine.

The Golden Eagles will host the Mountain Cats of Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday at Memorial Stadium where Clarion will honor their six seniors. All the action is set to kick-off at 5:30 pm.
