Soccer Victorious on Senior Night

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion women's soccer team played to a 2-0 victory over the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats on senior night.

On a cold and windy evening at Memorial Stadium, Clarion honored their six seniors prior to the game. These six seniors helped Clarion soccer set numerous program records over their time played in a Blue and Gold uniform, including a historical 2017 season where the Golden Eagles set a new mark for PSAC wins, along with matching the program record for wins in a season.

With six games remaining, the win pushes the Golden Eagles record to 3-9-0 on the season and 2-9-0 in the PSAC West.

The Mountain Cats started the match hot combining for six shots in the first half of play. Clarion totaled four shots in the half but made the most of their efforts.

Clarion broke the tie in the 53rd minute of play when Jaci Bowser scored just inside the box off of an assist by Madison Spitko. The Blue and Gold added to the lead in the 56th minute when Spitko scored a goal of her own off of a rebound that was blocked by the Pitt-Johnstown keeper.

Senior goalkeeper Brigid Stermel had five saves on the night four of which ame in the first half when the Pitt-Johnstown offense was peppering the net with shots.

Clarion finished the night with seven total shots, while the Mountain Cats finished with 12 total shots.

There was a slew of Golden Eagles who had shots tonight. Grace Mullen, Leann Wynder, Elle Stine, Julianna Iocco and Bowser each had one shot, while Spitko totaled two shots on the night.

Coach Latifi and his team will travel to Edinboro on Wednesday, October 23, where the Golden Eagles will take on the Fighting Scots at 6:00 p.m.
