MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Clarion women's swimming team completed their first dual meet of the 2019 season, falling to Allegheny 156-144 in Meadville on Friday night. The Golden Eagles will be back in action on October 25 when they head to Erie to take on Gannon.
The Golden Eagles started the night with a win in the 200 Medley Relay, with the quartet of
Ava Arnold,
Amanda Dial,
Autumn Fortney and
Abbey Newman posting a time of 1:51.55 to blow away the Gators' top unit. The "B" squad of
Stephanie Setar,
Candice Chalus,
Michelle Morrisey and
Carrie Lenz took fourth with a time of 1:55.76.
They followed that with a 3-4-5 finish in the 1000 Free, with Smith taking third in a time of 11:32.52.
Kaitlynn Henninge came in just behind her, posting a time of 11:41.43, and
Sarah Murray took fifth in the field with a time of 11:48.86. Dial and
Morgan Manglaviti went 3-4 in the 200 Free to pick up five team points, while the duo of Arnold and Setar went 2-3 in the 100 Backstroke.
Lenz took home a first-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke with a final mark of 1:10.55, while Arnold took second in the 200 Backstroke. Just a few events later Chalus proved clutch winning the 200 Breaststroke with a final time of 2:33.13. In the 200 IM Morrisey finished with a final time of 2:16.07 good enough for first palce and nine team points.
The Gators won several events to pull ahead of Golden Eagles, but the 200 Free Relay team of Newman, Manglaviti,
Gabi Wayne and
Letizia Collini finished first with a time of 1:40.92 to round out the scoring.
Emma Kehn swept the diving portion of the night to close out the team scoring for Clarion.
