Soccer Falls at Home to Mercyhurst

CLARION, Pa. – A late second half goal was the difference, as the Clarion women's soccer team was edged 1-0 at home against PSAC rival Mercyhurst University.

Clarion drops to 1-6-0 on the year and 0-6-0 in the PSAC, while the Lakers improve their record to 5-2-1 and 4-2-0 in PSAC play.

Mercyhurst's Taryn Baxter tallied a second half goal in the 65th minute on a rebound shot that was  missed from Anna Schult who tallied the assist, to give the visiting team a 1-0 advantage.

Clarion proved stingy on defense, behind goalkeeper Brigid Stermel's six saves, the Clarion back line bent but did not break.

The Golden Eagles finished the night with eight total shots compared to the Lakers 12, seven of which were on target and despite a heavy attack from the Mercyhurst offense, Clarion remained within striking distance until the very end.

Meliah Roman registered the lone shot on goal for the Golden Eagles but was stonewalled by Mercyhurst keeper Vilde Wold.

Clarion will hit the road this weekend when they travel to hosting Gannon University on Saturday October 5th at 5:00pm.
