ERIE, Pa. – Traveling to Erie to take on Gannon, the Clarion women's soccer team fell 3-0 on the Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-7-0 on the season and 0-7-0 in the PSAC, while the Golden Knights improve to 4-3-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the PSAC.
The Golden Knights scored early in the match to give them the 1-0 advantage when Sarah Fails scored on a fast break to. Gannon showered the net with 13 shots in the first half, but keeper
Brigid Stermel remained solid.
It wasn't until the 61
st minute that Gannon pulled further ahead making it 2-0. Maddie North found the net off of a deflection that gave her a clear path to the net. The Golden Knights put a stamp on the scoring in the 72
nd minute to give them a 3-0 commanding lead and ultimately the game when North netted her second goal of the night from the top of the box.
The Clarion offense got off to a slow start but picked up the pace in the second half, recording nine total shots, five of which were on goal.Â
Senior
Meliah Roman and sophomore
Alexis Moyer led Clarion with two total shots, while
Andie Hill and freshmen
Annalise Eiswerth and
Katherine Lopez along with
Julianna Iocco and
Mackenzie Sheldon each added one a piece.
Senior goalkeeper
Brigid Stermel played all 49 minutes in net, registering three saves, while
Brynn Markley played41 minutes making one save.
Clarion will return home Wednesday, October 9 when they host the Crimson Hawks of IUP. Wednesday's contest is scheduled for a 7 pm start at Memorial Stadium.
