Softball Swept in Twinbill at IUP

INDIANA, Pa. – The Clarion softball team dropped a pair of decisions on the road on Saturday afternoon, falling 10-0 and 12-7 to the IUP Crimson Hawks at Podbielski Field in a PSAC Central doubleheader.  The Golden Eagles (0-35, 0-12 PSAC) will try to regroup for two divisional doubleheaders next weekend, starting with a road trip to Mansfield on April 19.

Clarion went off for a couple big innings in the second half of the doubleheader, opening the game with a 3-0 lead and leading 5-3 after four and a half innings.  Makenzie Wolfe hit a two-out double in the top of the first inning and came around to score on an RBI single from Jessica Cartia.   Rebecca Kelley followed that with her fourth home run of the season, sending a pitch over the fence to put the Golden Eagles up by three runs early.

The Crimson Hawks rallied to tie the score by the third inning, but the Golden Eagles struck again to retake the lead.  Nicole Collins led off the top off the fourth with a single and Natalie Else hit Clarion's second home run of the game, depositing the ball over the fence to put her team ahead 5-3.  IUP responded with four runs in the home half of the inning to jump ahead 7-5, and led 12-5 after six.

Moriah Lynn put the Golden Eagles back on the board in the top of the seventh inning, lining a double to score Aryn Boyer, and Taylor Nonnenberg scored her with an RBI groundout to make it 12-7.  Wolfe singled up the middle to keep the rally going, but the Crimson Hawks retired the final two batters of the inning to end the threat.
