Softball Falls to Lock Haven in Final Road DH

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Clarion softball team fell in both ends of their penultimate doubleheader of the year, dropping decisions of 10-2 and 11-3 to the Lock Haven Bald Eagles at Lawrence Field.  The Golden Eagles will play their home finale and Senior Day tomorrow starting at 2:30 p.m.

Rebecca Kelley factored into nearly every run the Golden Eagles scored on Saturday, going 2-for-2 with an RBI in the first game and driving in another during the second.  The sophomore first basemen brought Jessica Cartia around on an RBI double in the top of the first inning of game one, driving the ball to center field to put Clarion ahead of Lock Haven 2-0.  In the second game, she reached on an error in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1, and later scored Moriah Lynn with a sacrifice fly.

In the first game, Makenzie Wolfe hit a two-out single to keep the inning going, and Cartia reached on an error in right field that allowed Wolfe to come around to score.  Kelley drove her in with the extra-base hit to make it 2-0, but those would be the last runs the Golden Eagles scored in the game.  Bekah Slattery shut Clarion down with five scoreless innings after that, and the Bald Eagles came away with the win after six innings.

The Golden Eagles took an early lead in the late game as well, starting again with a play by Kelley.  She hit a ball to shortstop and reached on an error in the top of the third inning, allowing Taylor Nonnenberg to come around from second and score to tie it a 1-1.  Hannah Norton scored Wolfe after that, lining a sacrifice fly to right field to make it a 2-1 advantage.

Lock Haven responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, but Kelley again struck to pull her team closer.  Lynn hit a one-out single to get things started, and eventually scored on an opposite-field fly ball by Kelley to make it 5-3.  The Bald Eagles scored five runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 10-3, and added another run in the sixth to end the game.
