CLARION, Pa. – In a game that was played in between raindrops and lightning delays, Slippery Rock's Sofia Harrison broke free in the 5
th minute to net the eventual game-winner as the visiting Rock edged Clarion 3-0 in women's soccer action Wednesday night.
The Golden Eagles (1-1-0) played tough on both ends of the field, placing four shots in the match, while Slippery Rock (2-1-0) showered the net with 14 shots on goal and 23 total shots.
Clarion's back line was solid throughout the night, headed by seniors
Andie Hill and
Elle Stine, along with
Leann Wynder and newcomer
Grace Mullen.
Goalkeeper
Brigid Stermel made 11 saves on the night but the Rock attack was too much for the Blue and Gold.
The young offense showed signs of improvement on Wednesday, recording one shot on net against an extremely tough Rock defense and four shots on the night.
Madison Spitko had the lone shot on goal for the Golden Eagles but couldn't find the back of the net.
Up next for Clarion is a trip to California (Pa.) this Saturday for a 1 pm matchup with the Vulcans (1-1).
