CLARION, Pa. – Clarion and Cal U went back and forth in a defensive battle through nearly 106 minutes of shutout soccer, but the Vulcans prevailed over the Golden Eagles 1-0 thanks to a goal scored in double overtime. Clarion (1-2-0, 0-2-0 PSAC)West will take on Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday before returning home to host Edinboro on Saturday.

The Vulcans' Lindsie Galbreath scored the clincher in the 105th minute, taking a cross from Juliana Cruz and sneaking it past keeper
Brigid Stermel to put the Vulcans on top. Â To that point Clarion had the better of the opportunities but was outshot by Cal U 13-8 overall and 8-3 on net.

The other big opportunity for the Golden Eagles came in set plays, as they held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. One of those came mid-way through the second half, when
Alexis Moyer arched a ball in front of the net and was headed by
Grace Mullen but was saved by the Vulcans.
Madison Spitko had an opportunity to give the Golden Eagles the lead in the 81
st minute but Vulcan keeper Gianna Sinatra made a good save.
Mackenzie Sheldon also had a crack at scoring in the first extra frame but the ball sailed wide left .
Andie Hill almost gave the Blue and Gold the victory in the 101
st minute off of a corner by Mullen but the header rang high.

Abigail Sullivan drove offense for Clarion, putting three total shots. Stermel was solid in between the posts for 104 minutes making seven saves on the day.
