PEPPER PIKE, OHIO - In his maiden game as head coach
Afrim Latifi wasted no time notching his first victory in the Blue and Gold. Heading to Pepper Pike, Ohio to start the season, the Clarion women's soccer team grabbed a 1-0 win over Ursuline on Saturday in tough back and forth defensive game, which found the Golden Eagles and Ursuline Arrows picking up six yellow cards in total.Â

After an Ursuline yellow card Clarion wasted no time putting the pressure on, opening the scoring on just their second shot of the afternoon. Sophomore
Leann Wynder found the back of the net in the 20
th minute off of an assist from junior
Dani McNally putting the Golden Eagles on top 1-0. Clarion threatened to score once again just nine minutes later when a shot from
Andie Hill was saved by the Arrow keeper.

In the second half Clarion kept the pressure on peppering the net with shots from Hill and
Alexis Moyer. On the afternoon Moyer finished with two shots, Hill finished with four and Wynder finished with one.

In total, Ursuline out shot Clarion 20-7, but Senior keeper
Brigid Stermel was solid between the pipes making six saves in 90 minutes of action stonewalling the Arrow attack.

The Golden Eagles (1-0-0) will open PSAC play at home on Wednesday, September 11 when they host Slippery Rock at Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.
