CLARION, Pa. – The Golden Eagle women's swimming and diving team won their third straight dual in convincing fashion on Friday night, defeating Bloomsburg 153-84 at Tippin Natatorium to improve to 3-0 in duals this year.
For the third straight week Clarion excelled not just in pure speed, but also in strategy and detail. The Golden Eagles were able to pile up the points, placing many times throughout the night as the top three podium spots.
"This meet was a great tool for us to see how we're doing with our training," said head coach Bree Kelley. "The women did fantastic and our depth really showed today."
Not only did the swimmers shine but the divers were on point as well.
Anna Vogt grabbed the top spot in the 1M Dive, followed by
Alexa Gonczi with scores of 230.55 and 227.55 respectively. In the 3M the pair flip-flopped as Gonczi took the top spot with a score of 227.10, while Vogt finished with a 226.13.
The 400 Medley Relay team of
Stephanie Setar,
Sydney Davidson,
Autumn Fortney and
Hannah Greenway began the meet with a win,
Jordan Kutchak raced to a mark of 1:58.98 for the first-place finish, followed shortly by Mandy Dial, who took third with a time of 2:02.13. The Golden Eagle lead widened after the 50 Free, as Clarion took-first place to score 9 of a possible 19 points in the event.
Corina Paszek finished with a mark of 2:15.06 to win the event,
Ava Rosely took third with a time of 2:18.66.
Autumn Fortney scored her first individual win of the night in the 200 Fly, with a time of 2:15.22. Greenway followed with a first place finish in the 100 Free touching the wall in 53.67. Then came the first 1-2-3 finish of the night for the Golden Eagles, in the 200 Breaststroke,
Tidawee Srun,
Candice Chalus and
Kennedy Bass, with Srun pacing the field with a final time of 2:27.06.
"The team was racing and fighting for every finish," said Kelley. "They are continuing to improve and make changes week to week and I'm very proud of their efforts."
The Golden Eagles wrapped things up with another relay win, as the 400 Free Relay team of
Haley Miller, Kutchak, Fortney and Paszek cruised to a final mark of 3:42.17.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action when they head to Akron to participate in the Zippy Invitational on December 3rd.
