Game Recap: Basketball (Men's) |

Men's Hoops Downed by Gannon

CLARION, Pa. - Taking on the Gannon Golden Knights in midweek action, the Clarion men's basketball team fell by a final score of 72-60 inside Tippin Gym. With the loss the Golden Eagles move to 1-4 on the young season, while the Golden Knights improve to a perfect 5-0.

Freshman Gerald Jarmon was the catalyst for the Clarion offense, knocking down 9 of 23 shots for 23 points, while grabbing two rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes of action.

Lawrence Lemon added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Blue and Gold, while floor general Mason Mraz added 11 points for Clarion.

Getting off to a slow start offensively, the Golden Eagles found themselves having to battle back from an early deficit. With the lead as big as 22 points at some parts of the first half, Clarion was able to hang around and head into the halftime break trailing just 37-19.

The Golden Eagles shot just 24% from the field in the first frame compared to Gannons even 50% and that proved to be the difference maker.

With defense as the central focus for the blue and gold in the second half, Clarion was able to hold Gannon to just a miniscule 36% from the field and an equal 36% from beyond the arc, clawing at the lead and pulling back within 10 points thanks to an explosive second half from Jarmon and Lemon.

The comeback effort fell short midway through the second half though as the strong shooting performance from Gannon was too much to overcome. The Golden Knights finished the game shooting 43% from the field building a second lead as big as 24 points.

Gannon's Ike Herster scored a team high 15 points pacing the Golden Knight offense to the win.

Clarion returns to action on Saturday, February 13 when they travel to Erie to take on the Gannon Golden Knights. Tip-off is slated for 1 pm.
