ERIE, Pa. - Freshman Gerald Jarmon scored a career high 31 points Saturday afternoon, but the Golden Knight attack was too powerful as the Golden Eagles fell to Gannon on the road 83-63. The loss moves Clarion to 1-5 overall, while Gannon improves to a perfect 6-0 on the year.Â
Exchanging buckets early on in the game the Golden Eagles and Golden Knights were deadlocked at 22 with just under five minutes to go in the first half. Jarmon hit two free throws to put Clarion up 23-22 but the Golden Knights answered right back with a two point bucket of their own regaining the lead 24-23.
Steve Kelly tied the game once more at the two minute mark, knocking down a layup to bring the score to 29 all. After a defensive rebound by Lawrence Lemon, Jarmon was able to make a jumper with 49 seconds left in the half but Gannon's Chris Clancy raced the length of the floor and drilled a three with 21 seconds left to put Gannon on top 32-31.Â
The half was far from over though as Kelly was able to lay in a bucket in the paint as time expired to send Clarion to the locker room with a 33-32 lead and all the momentum.Â
In the first half the blue and gold shot 38% from the field, 31% from beyond the arc and an impressive 71% from the charity stripe.Â
The second half started with a Gannon steal and foul allowing the Golden Knights to even the score at 33 a piece. Looking to pick up where they left off from the first half, Clarion managed to take the lead at the 17 minute mark but the depth of the Gannon offense proved to be too much to overcome.Â
The Golden Knights regained the lead at the 16:33 mark and never looked back, building a lead as large as 22 before time expired with the score reading 83-63 in favor of the Knights.Â
Jarmon scored a career high 31 points in 38 minutes of work, picking up three rebounds and adding one steal.Â
Mason Mraz added 15 points on 5 of 12 shooting and seven rebounds, while Steve Kelly added eight points and four assists. Lemon grabbed a team high 10 boards, while adding four points and a steal.
Clarion will look to rebound from the loss on Friday, February 19, when they play host to Salem. Tip-off is set for 7 pm sharp. Â
