Five Golden Eagles Scored in Double Figures as Men's Hoops Downs Bryant and Stratton

CLARION, Pa. - Five Golden Eagles scored double figures Sunday afternoon, as the Clarion Men's Basketball team routed the visiting Bryant and Stratton Bobcats by a final score of 86-69 at Tippin Gymnasium.

Pacing the Golden Eagle offense was Gerald Jarmon who notched his first career double-double, scoring a game high 28 points and 10 rebounds in 36 minutes of action, while adding four assists and two steals.

Lawrence Lemon proved solid for the blue and gold attack for the second straight game, adding 17 points and eight boards to go along with four blocks.

Freshman guard Mekhi Reynolds had his best showing of the season, knocking down 5 of 12 shots for 13 points to go along with four boards in 26 minutes of action, adding two assists in the attack.

Fellow freshman Steve Kelly and guard Mason Mraz each added 12 points a piece, while Mraz added nine boards and one assist.

The blue and gold got off to a hot start, knocking down back to back to back threes to start the game building a lead of 906 just four minutes into the game.

With the lead only changing three times the entire game, all during the first frame of the game, Clarion traded baskets back and forth down the floor for most of the first half. Taking advantage of the poor first half shooting performance by Bryant and Stratton, the Golden Eagles were able to build a lead as large as 17 points before the halftime break on the back of stellar shooting from the Golden Eagle front court.

Heading into halftime, Clarion held a 44-27 lead, shooting an impressive 44% from the field and an even more impressive 40% from deep. On the opposite side of the ball, the Bobcats shot just 33% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc.

The second half was no different than the first, as the Golden Eagles continued to build on their first half lead, steamrolling the Bobcat defense building a lead as large at 30 multiple times down the home stretch.

Ending the first half with only 10 points, Jarmon went to work using the entire floor to score in the second half. Stretching the lead to 65-35 at the 14 minute mark Jarmon knocked down a pair of free throws, raced to the other end of the floor, grabbed a defensive rebound and took the ball the length of the floor and drilled a layup.

Reynolds added to the scoring frenzy in the second half, knocking down multiple three's throughout the half, most notably a dagger at the 5:20 mark, putting Clarion up 78-53.

Jarmon put the game on ice with 49 seconds left , finding Mraz with a behind the back pass for an easy layup making the score 85-66.

Clarion will return to action on Wednesday, March 3 when they play host to PSAC foe Mercyhurst. Tip-off is slated for 7 pm.
