Men's Swimming & Diving Rolls on 2nd Day of Fall Classic

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle men's swimming & diving team completed their first competition of the season with a dominant effort at home, closing out the Clarion Fall Classic with a standout performance in Saturday's swimming events. Clarion finished with 961 team points.

Many of the names atop the various event results will probably be familiar to Golden Eagle fans, with David Bocci leading all Golden Eagles in scoring on the day. The reigning PSAC Men's Swimming Freshman of the Year won three individual events, including both the 100 and 200 Free and the 200 Breaststroke. In the 200 Free, Bocci touched the wall nearly two seconds ahead of his teammate Dominic Cortopassi, finishing with a time of 1:46.86. He went on to win the 100 Free with a time of 49.66, topping Ryan Ehlers and Nolan Songer, and finished his individual day with a time of 2:19.20 in a winning effort in the 200 Breaststroke.

The freshman Cortopassi enjoyed his first taste of collegiate competition, though, winning his first individual event with a victory in the 200 Back. He edged out Grove City's Will Sterrett by less than a full second, coming in with a time of 2:04.08. Cortopassi went on to win the 200 IM, finishing in a time of 2:03.18 that was more than two full seconds ahead of second-place Michael Lintelman, and he rounded out his individual day with a 55.26 winning effort in the 100 Back.

Ty Rabenstein got things going in the 1650 Free, winning the long-distance event with a time of 17:30.40. After a couple of second-place finishes through the early part of the program, Mason Irwin put the Golden Eagles back atop the figurative podium with a time of 2:02.55 in the 200 Fly, and followed that up with another win in the 500 Free. In the latter, Irwin finished with a time of 5:06.89, just ahead of teammate Connor Cary. Cary earned himself a victory late in the day, winning the 100 Fly with a time of 52.42.
