Men's Swimming & Diving Falls to Gannon

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle men's swimming & diving team won four swimming events and claimed a victory in one of the dives, but Clarion fell at home to Gannon by a score of 172-90 on Friday evening.

Ty Rabenstein locked down the Golden Eagles' first event win of the night, pacing the field in the long-distance 1000 Free. Rabenstein blew away the PSAC qualifying time of 10:29.32 by nearly 30 seconds, completing the race in 10:05.30 to lead the field. That was good enough to outpace the Golden Knights' Ryan Barclay by a little more than two seconds.

The race in the 200 Free offered quite a bit of drama in its own right, as Connor Cary held off a fierce late charge by Malachi Boyle to edge him for the win. Boyle came on late in the race but Cary was able to stay just ahead of him, ultimately beating him by less than a half-second. Cary touched the wall in 1:45.33 for a PSAC qualifying time, while David Bocci took fourth with a time of 1:47.25.

Perhaps the tightest win of the night for the Golden Eagles was the 100 Back, with freshman Dominic Cortopassi out-dueling Justin Decheck by three-hundredths of a second. Cortopassi cut roughly two seconds off his time from six days ago, touching the wall in 53.86. It all came down to the last stretch as Decheck was just 0.03 behind him at 53.89. Mason Irwin took third with a time of 54.52, hitting a PSAC qualifying mark.

Bocci added another win to the Golden Eagles' tally on Friday with a strong performance in the 200 Fly, holding off Gannon's David Gallion for the victory. Bocci touched the wall in 1:55.69, while Nolan Songer placed fourth. Gallion just nipped Bocci in the 100 Fly later in the evening, though, finishing in 52.07 compared to Bocci's 52.22. The sophomore's win in the 200 Fly proved to be the final victory of the night for the Golden Eagle men's swimmers, as the Golden Knights took control down the stretch.

In the diving events, Jordan Morret added another win to Clarion's tally, notching a score of 294.15 in the 3-Meter Dive. That marked a personal best for Morret, and left him just 0.85 short of hitting his first NCAA qualifying mark of the season. Morret took second in the 1-Meter Dive with a scroe of 230.18.
