CLARION, Pa. – Hailey Dobb scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the first half, but the Golden Eagle soccer team was unable to capitalize on a number of other high-danger scoring chances in falling 2-1 to Gannon at Memorial Stadium.
Dobb's first career goal came in what was an impressive offensive first half of the game, as Clarion pushed the attack forward on the Golden Knights. Gannon struck first when Gabby Boden scored on a corner kick, bending the shot in with her right foot to put her team on the board in the sixth minute.
The Golden Eagle offense kept up the pressure and fired back less than three minutes later.
Kylee Cross tapped a short pass up the middle to
Taylor Serrano, who lifted one to the right side to find Dobb streaking down the wing. Dobb had time and space and then ripped a shot on goal, beating Kennedy Solymosi to the lower right corner to tie it at 1-1.
Cross and Dobb had two great chances just moments later, both pounding hard shots to the net that were saved by Solymosi. The Golden Knights had opportunities of their own as well, but goalkeeper
Alex Velez turned away four of the five shots against in the half.
In the second half, Logan Nicklas led Sarah Fails with a pass, with Fails scoring her seventh of the year in the 52
nd minute to put the Golden Knights ahead 2-1. Most of the solid opportunities the rest of the way were on the Clarion side as Gannon peppered Velez with five shots, including a miss by Nicklas that hit the crossbar.
