EDINBORO, Pa. - Facing the Edinboro Fighting Scots for the second time in as many games, the Clarion men's basketball team fell on the road at the McComb Fieldhouse, Wednesday night by a final score of 71-61. The loss moves the Golden Eagles to 9-13 on the year and 5-12 in the PSAC conference, while 'Boro improves to 7-14 overall and 5-10 in conference play.Â
Jordan Agyemang had the hot hand for the Golden Eagles scoring a team high 14 points on 4 of 6 shooting in 32 minutes of work, while grabbing a game high 10 rebounds. Agyemang also shot an impressive 6 of 8 from the charity stripe as the Fighting Scots had no answer for the Bronx, New York native most of the contest.Â
Gerald Jarmon was kept under wraps in 40 minutes of action scoring 12 points to go along with five rebounds and one assist.Â
Clarion shot 33% from the field for the game and 24% from beyond the arc. while shooting 13 of 16 from the free throw line, 81%.
The Blue and Gold managed to build a four point lead, their largest of the first half, seven times, but the Fighting Scots offense continued to hand around, and after clawing their way back with just over six minutes left in the first half, Clarion had a tough matchup on their hand with the score even at 27-27.Â
At the 5:24 mark,
Mason Mraz made a layup off of an assist from Agyemang to give Clarion the lead momentarily, but Edinboro matched the Golden Eagle layup with a layup of their own on the offensive end of the court.Â
Both teams traded baskets on the next few possessions, but at the 3:44 mark, Agyemang found a cutting
Mekhi Reynolds who made the easy layup to put the visiting team ahead 35-31.Â
Refusing to go away, Edinboro again battled back going on an 11 to four run to close out the first half and send the Scots to the locker room with the lead 40-38.
Lawrence Lemon managed to Clarion back on track to start the second half, making a three from the wing to put Clarion down one point, and after a
Kaison Branch rebound, Agyemang powered his way through his defender and made a big boy layup, getting fouled to complete the good old fashioned three point play as the Golden Eagles grabbed the lead 44-42.Â
After a jumper from Jaryn Simpson tied the score at 44 with 16-45 left to play in the game, Lemon put Clarion back on top with another three, this time from a dish by Branch.Â
Clarion traded baskets with Edinboro throughout the second half, with Agyemang and Lemon pacing the offense, but at the 4:14 mark, the Fighting Scots took the lead for good and never looked back as they slowed the Clarion attack almost to a hault, outscoring the Golden Eagles 12-2 to close out the final minutes.Â
Clarion will look to get back into the win column on Saturday, February 12th when they play host to PSAC powerhouse Pitt-Johnstown, Tip-off is set for 3 pm follow the women's contest.Â
