CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle soccer team managed to cut their deficit to one midway through the second half, but Clarion could not totally erase their disadvantage as Slippery Rock held on for a 2-1 win at Memorial Stadium.

Kylee Cross continued her climb in the all-time scoring record books at Clarion, netting her second goal of the season in the 53
rd minute to cut The Rock's lead down to 2-1. The Golden Eagles had been struggling to build and maintain possession in the offensive end when a foul by Maddie DeLucio granted them a free kick well into Slippery Rock territory.

Nicole Brown's kick toward the net got caught in traffic, with
Marisa Colondrillo taking the initial shot at goalkeeper Leah Allman. Allman turned that attempt away but could not control the rebound, with Cross hammering it with her left foot for her ninth career goal. That moved her into a tie with Aaliyah Odom and Marina Kelly for fifth place all-time in goals. It also represented her 29
th  career point, putting her one behind Ashley Regazzi for second all-time.

Similar to the team's first meeting, things were actually fairly tight throughout, despite The Rock scoring two goals late in the first half to build a significant lead. The result ended up hinging on just a handful of plays, starting with Slippery Rock's first goal of the game. In the 36
th minute
Emily Mannion was whistled for a foul in the box, granting The Rock's Brooke Riefenstahl a penalty kick against Clarion's
Alex Velez. Velez appeared to guess correctly as to where Riefenstahl would place the ball but could not quite make the extension to stop the shot as Slippery Rock went up 1-0.

Slippery Rock's second goal came on a fortunate bounce in the 44
th minute, giving them a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break. Jaime Dermotta dished off to Sydney Patrick, who took a shot on net that deflected off the shin of Morgan Sarver and popped up high into the air, over the arms of Velez for the goal.
