CLARION, Pa. --- A tightly-fought first half gave way to a lone goal midway through the second half, as the Golden Eagle soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Edinboro at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night. Clarion was unable to capitalize on several chances while the Fighting Scots made the most of a second-half flurry that gave them the win.
 
The game began with the teams equal in their ability to maintain possession, though at times the Golden Eagles were the team driving action in the offensive end.  First half shots were 5-3 in favor of Edinboro, including a couple of quality scoring chances, but Clarion matched them building in possession from the back and working it in deep into the offensive end.
 
One such attempt came in the 16^th minute, when the Golden Eagles were awarded two corner kicks in rapid succession. The second attempt resulted in a header attempt by Reese Aquilio that went just over the net.
 
Clarion continued to put pressure on the Fighting Scots, though Edinboro responded with first half chances of their own. Megan Malits pushed a ball just wide of the net in the 17^th  minute, with the ball hooking right and just outside the right post.
 
Edinboro had a plethora of chances in the middle of the second half, with none better than a pair of shots in the 66^th minute. Gabby Ellwsorth fired a ball toward the upper portion of the net that was punched away by Velez, but the rebound came directly to Reece Enochs in the box. Enochs shot but Velez dove to the ground to her left, scooping the ball away from the goal line for a highlight-reel save.
 
Enochs would break through just 90 seconds later, though, after a long lead pass down the middle from Maggie Hays allowed to her get behind a Golden Eagle defender. She shot from distance, putting it over Velez to make it 1-0. Clarion had opportunities to tie it, with Jaci Bowser attempting a shot in the 88^th minute, but Edinboro held on the for the win.
