Women's Golf in Fifth After First Round at Kutztown

FLEETWOOD, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle women's golf team showed uncanny consistency in their group effort on Sunday afternoon, with Clarion's top four golfers all within two strokes of one another in the first round of the Kutztown Fall Invitational.

The team recorded a round score of 358 on Sunday, putting them in fifth place among the assembled teams.  That left them a scant nine strokes shy of third place, though, and well ahead of sixth-place East Stroudsburg.

All four of the scorers for Clarion on Sunday were within a handful of strokes of one another, paced by Sylvia Stibley. Stibley shot an 88 to tie for 12th overall in the field, including a birdie on the par-4 No. 1 and seven additional pars over the course of the round.

The next three Golden Eagles – Samantha Huth, McKayla Kerle and Hailee Liptak – all carded identical scores of 90 to tie for 15th in the field. Huth also had a birdie on her scorecard, with hers coming on the par-4 No. 2 hole, and she notched five pars on the day. Kerle didn't card any birdies but she did manage seven pars, and Liptak shot even par on four holes and had only two holes where she was worse than two-over.

Rounding out Clarion's five competitors was Hannah Smith. The freshman tied for 25th with a score of 95.
