CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle volleyball team wrapped up their home schedule with a Senior Day win on Saturday afternoon, as Clarion beat Edinboro 3-1 (25-11, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15) in Tippin Gymnasium. The teams split the first two sets but the Golden Eagles caught fire in the last two, hitting .371 in the last two sets for the win.
Â
Playing in front of their home fans for the final time this regular season, the Golden Eagles put on an offensive clinic in the third and fourth sets, committing just eight errors compared to 34 kills in that span. Clarion did need a comeback rally in the third set, though, as the Fighting Scots held a 15-12 lead midway through the frame.
Abigail Selfridge dropped in an ace to tie the set at 16, and
Cassidy Snider notched kills on back-to-back points to even things up at 20-20. The junior went on to break the tie with a kill, and then teamed with
Finley Kearney to block Natalie Pallone to make it a 23-20 advantage.
Savannah Taosoga finished off that rally, killing balls on two of the last three points to give her team a 25-22 set win.
Â
The result of the fourth set was only briefly in question, as Clarion rode a 9-2 run to take a commanding lead in the set.
Julia Piccolino blocked Kathryn Raschilla to open up a 10-7 lead, and Snider ripped off kills on three straight points to balloon the Golden Eagles' advantage to 15-9. Setter
London Fuller helped her team win the race to 20 points with a tip kill at 20-11, and
Sadie Leisinger forced match point with kills on two of three points. An error by Edinboro's Rita Campos on match point gave the Golden Eagles the win.
Â
Snider went off to the tune of a season-high 26 kills in four sets, giving her 1,313 career kills. She is now one of just seven players in program history to top 1,300 career kills. Piccolino added 12 kills to her season tally while
Finley Kearney contributed six kills and four blocks. Fuller recorded 40 assists and 14 digs. Selfridge added 16 digs and two aces.
Â
The Golden Eagles started things off with a big rally in the first set, going up 5-1 after two kills by Piccolino and one by Snider. A 9-0 run eliminated any drama as Clarion opened up a 14-3 lead, with
Sophia Lucas serving up nine straight points. Kearney and Snider finished off the run with a block of Natalie Pallone, and Kearney added a kill two points later to make it 15-4. Taosoga helped her side win the race to 20 with a kill at 20-7, and
Charlie Allison added one at set point to give Clarion the lead. Edinboro took a 22-17 lead in the second set but the Golden Eagles rallied to 23-21, with Selfridge logging an ace, but the Fighting Scots evened the match up with a kill.
